2012 entry and race information

Concept: The Fresh Choice Womens Bike Run Tri is a relaxed event for women who want to give it a go, and decide what discipline or how much they want to do.

You can choose to do a duathlon (run / bike / run) that you will bike and run/walk (walking is actively encouraged if that’s what you wish to do);
A more traditional triathlon (swim or kayak, bike, run);
Or a complete run around the lake.

You can choose to do the event as an individual or you can grab a friend or two and enter as a team.

The good thing is you can choose to do as much as you wish, what counts is you’re being active, and having fun.

The renamed Fresh Choice Womens Bike Run Try, aka Southern Lakes Women’s Duathlon & Triathlon, takes place yet again in the Lake Hayes Show Ground, in Queenstown, on the 3rd March 2012.

Date: 3rd March 2012

Location: Lake Hayes Show Ground Queenstown, 11.00am Start, Briefing 10.45am

Entry fee for all options:
Individuals $35 ( late entry fee on the day $45),
Teams $80 (late entry fee on the day $100).

Categories: You can enter as an individual: Open / Veteran (35 yrs +)

For the business category, all team members must be working for the same company.

Triathlon course: Swim 300m or kayak equivalent Bike 15km Run 5km
Swim 300 metres or Kayak equivalent (approx 2km) in Lake Hayes. This section will have a safety boat to provide backup, and a buoy will be put on the lake a week out if you want to train.

Please note that kayakers starts paddling towards the Queenstown side of the lake, while the swimmers are equally divided in two groups and swim towards a turn around buoy situated 150 meters from the shore, in order to avoid collisions at the start.

The bike section starts from the Lake Hayes grounds, through the internal paved bike lane onto the Arrowtown Lakes Hayes road towards Arrowtown. It turns left into Speargrass Flat Road, and then U turn to ride back to the Lake Hayes Showground.

The running section will be along the shore of Lake Hayes on the walking track, thus avoiding running on the road all together.

Duathlon course: Run/walk 1.5km, Bike 15km, Run/walk 5km
Run 1.5km on Lake Hayes Track.
The rest of the course is the same as the triathlon above: bike on the Lake Hayes / Arrowtown Road, turn left into Speargrass Flat Road, ride 3.4 kms and U-turn to ride back to Lake Hayes. This section is mainly flat and course marshals will be on each corner to direct you; Run or Walk 5kms on Lake Hayes Track back to the finish line.

Run course: 8.1km
The run is an off road 8.1km around Lake Hayes, starting from the Lake Hayes pavilion, running clockwise around the lake to finish back to the finish line at the show grounds.

What you need:
Depending on what event you’ve entered, and which disciplines you have chosen, you will need a good pair of comfortable running shoes;
A helmet and a bike in good condition (it can be a road bike or a mountain bike);
A life jacket, kayak with good buoyancy and a paddle;
And a swim suit (you can also wear a wet suit if you have one but it is not compulsory).
You will also need some sunscreen, towels to dry, energy food and drink - it can be as simple as some chocolate and nuts, and some water.
