The race, which is being hosted by Explore Sweden and organized by Michael Nordstrom and Helena Lind, promises to be a highlight of the year. The 800km course through Lapland will give 40 teams the chance to explore the mountains and fjords in the Land of the Midnight Sun as they compete for the World title.
Some teams have already qualified, and others will get priority entry through the ARWorld Series qualification criteria, with any remaining places available on application.
The ARWorld Series races this year still give a few opportunities to win places or qualify. Starting shortly is XPD in Tasmania (Feb 20th to March 3rd), followed by the Bergson Winter Challenge in Poland (Feb 26th – March 5th) and then Bimbache Extrem in Andalusia Spain (March 25th – 31st). The winners of the Wilderness ARC, to be held in Scotland from May 27th to June 4th, will also win a free place on the starting line up in Sweden.
Several of strongest international teams are already assured of their place. At the moment the following teams have already won free entry;
Cross Sportswear (Sweden) by winning Explore Sweden ´05
Merrell Wigwam Adventure (US/NZ) by winning Bull of Africa ´05
Buff – Nike ACG (Spain) by winning Ecomotion Pro ´05
Balance Vector (NZ) by winning ARWC ‘05
These teams are guaranteed a spot (but must pay entry fee);
Lundhags Adventure (Sweden) by finishing second in Explore Sweden ´05
Mazda/Salomon (SA/Aust) by finishing second in Bull of Africa ´05
Nike Balance Bar (USA) by finishing second in AR World Championship ´05
The organizers are determined to make the trip to Sweden as smooth and hassle free as possible for all the visiting teams. The race is unsupported and the race packages include all logistics, transfers and gear transport to and from Stockholm, hotel apartments for the teams, meals before and after the race, the race banquet, and any race equipment ie kayaks.
During the event sleepmonsters will give exclusive coverage and you can follow all the ARWorld Series lead up events on http://www.sleepmonsters.com |
